A few things…….
First off, people really do worry about the Alexa ranking way too much. Having a better number doesn’t mean you’ll get more business. In fact, the average consumer knows next to nothing about it. It basically only serves as a nice little competition for webmasters and their sites. Although it can be fun, it’s not near as important as some people make it out to be.
That being said, here are the top few ways to improve your alexa and Pagerank ranking.
1)Use a redirect for your site whenever possible like this one (switch out the x’s for your own site)
http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com
That will get alexa to make note of your site for every unique hit you get. This is good, as not everyone has the Alexa toolbar, which brings me to #2
2)Get the Alexa toolbar. Its a simple download, and it will improve your ranking quick. There are also alternatives for Firefox, and WYZO is always good.
3)Join a site that hands free hits to your site daily. I have joined THIS SITE, CLICK HERE a while ago, and I usually get at least 1000 hits to my site daily. There is probably only 100 uniques with that, but it is free. This by itself helped my ranking by hundreds of thousands of ranks. Not bad.
3)Get the alexa widget. This is about as simple as it gets. Go to www.Alexa.com, find the widget script after you check your site ranking, and paste it on your site. (Big suprise that you have to support alexa to boost your ranking right?!)
4)Check your keyword density, your link popularity, META title, and META tags. If you dont know how to do this, look it up. Don’t skip over this idea.
Between the 4 of these ideas, I literally have now dropped my alexa ranking right about 2 million slots! I still have room to boost ranking, but for free and little effort - Not bad.
I hope this helps.

Issuing a press release, whether a paid inclusion or a free one is a great way to increase traffic, which increases ranking. http://www.eMediaWorld.com and http://www.FreeNewsRelease.ca are 2 to have a look at.
